This week we are thrilled to celebrate 24 years since AcrossLimits was founded! What began as a small software development company on 12th June 2001 has blossomed into a leading creative technology and innovation firm. Over the years, we have participated in 90+ successful EU projects, empowering numerous organisations across academia, industry, and the public sector to navigate the world of European funding opportunities.

> An ever-growing family and continual improvement of company operations
Our AcrossLimits family has continued to grow over the past year, now boasting over 20 talented employees spread out across 5 departments, as well as over 60 experts who contribute to our mission of driving innovation and collaboration across Europe.
Over the past year we have continued to optimise our intra-departmental and inter-departmental operations and communications in order to ensure that our company runs as seamlessly and efficiently as possible.
The HR, Finance and Administration department led by Jacqueline Bugeja oversees all financial and administrative matters of the company
All software development and creative media is handled by our IT and Digital Media department, led by Emanuele Pristerà, developing creative solutions for our clients and projects.

The Partnerships department led by Senfer Usman coordinates the engagement and management of clients, as well as our collaborations with our vast network of partners across Europe.
The department works closely with the EU Funding and Proposal Development department, led by Alexander Camilleri, which handles the identification of EU funding opportunities and the conceptualisation, writing and submission of proposals for EU grants and tenders.
Finally, the EU Projects department, led by Rebecca Zammit, is responsible for the timely and quality implementation of the companies’ commercial and EU projects and tenders.
> First physical international team meeting

Since our transition to remote working in 2020, we have always done our best to meet up physically as a team. Finally, in November 2024, we managed to gather the whole AcrossLimits core team in Malta for an epic two days of teambuilding activities and early Christmas celebrations.
Travelling from Sicily, Cyprus and Ireland, getting to know each other in person was invaluable. After a series of brainstorming sessions, group cooking and game nights, our team is closer and stronger than ever.

> Several new exciting projects, and many more underway
Over the past year we’ve kicked off 3 new EU projects:
EYE-TEACH aims to use AI-powered eye-tracking tech to help teachers improve students’ reading comprehension. By analysing how students read, the system will give real-time insights that help educators personalise support.
APERTURE aims to bridge the gap between education and the construction and real estate sectors, by offering a free MOOC, hands-on training, and a business plan competition.
ARCOE is our newest project, and will create a virtual talent innovation ecosystem hub to improve HR practices, career development and research collaboration, with a focus on WIDERA countries.
AcrossLimits has joined forces with the EpicX consortium, to support them in their aim to financially support 20 female-led deep tech startups from countries classified as “moderate” and “emerging” innovators, and acting as their communication node in Malta.
We have also contracted our first ever European Space Agency contract, which will see us developing Spazju.eu, an exciting initiative that we are developing in collaboration with local educators. We will be developing an eLearning platform fully tailored for Maltese primary educators to integrate space education into their daily curriculum in fun and interesting ways.
As we prepare to kick off some other new projects, we are also wrapping up others.

This year we’ve successfully concluded 2 projects spanning the fields of University education, Research, and Business:
Venture Alliances aimed to build bridges between academia and industry, pairing 100 researchers with 100 businesses to create meaningful, cross-sector collaborations across Europe.
InnovaLab aimed to explore and implement innovative ways to support lecturing staff in improving their teaching techniques, ensuring more effective knowledge transfer and student engagement.
At the same time we continue our successful work on several of our ongoing projects such as:
Women TechEU is a massive undertaking for AcrossLimits and our 14 consortium partners, taking over the scheme that was previously run by the European Commission, with the 2-year project totalling €15 million. The aim of Women TechEU is to address the gender gap evident in the deep tech sectors, where less than 2% European companies are women-led. Women TechEU is investing 12M€ in equity-free grants to 160 women-led deep tech companies and provide a programme of additional capacity building support services. AcrossLimits leads the dissemination, communication and exploitation work package in this project, and we have the responsibility of ensuring that the scheme reaches 15,000 startups!
ERA Shuttle’s main goal is to foster R&I capacity in the ERA to benefit the participating widening countries, which are Poland, Croatia and Malta, and to create a cross-sectoral framework for collaboration to address contemporary health & environmental challenges and produce innovative solutions for the benefit of society.

PoliRuralPlus aims to foster sustainable, balanced, equitable, place-based, and inclusive development of rural and urban areas through innovation, experimentation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration
GREENPORT Alliances is a collaborative initiative focused on advancing sustainability in the port services sector.
PATTERN builds upon a previous initiative to transform road infrastructure management. By using digital twin technology, advanced AI algorithms, and data analytics, PATTERN aims to optimise urban mobility, reduce emissions, and promote sustainable transportation practices.
Fintech Investor Network and Ecosystem (FINE), which ends in November 2025, focuses on fintech investor networks in Europe, with the goal being to build stronger connections among fintech networks, both locally and internationally.
WINBLUE, which ends later this month, implements tools aiming towards the empowerment of women and mainstreaming of gender equality in various sectors of the blue economy.
> Future Story
In the past year we have embarked on a joint venture with Grey Matter, an Emirati company represented by Kais Badran.
The aim of Future Story is to make matches between European companies, particularly startups, and investors, mainly from the Gulf Cooperation Council, who are willing to invest in the latest innovations in different sectors, such as Deeptech, Healthtech, Foodtech, and Proptech.

What distinguishes Future Story from other matchmakers is the personal element. At Future Story, our aim is not to input details into a platform and allow the algorithms to make matches. Rather, we meet personally (online or face-to-face) with startups and investors in order to understand their needs and goals and find appropriate matches accordingly.
You can sign up as a start-up company or as an investor here.

> Attending major events all over Europe
This year we were fortunate enough to attend several events occurring all throughout Europe and beyond, where we got the chance to meet some of our partners, experts and clients face-to-face, and promote our ongoing projects, ventures and products. Some of the most exciting events over the past year included:
In February, our Managing Director, Angele Giuliano, had the pleasure of meeting one of our experts, Milena Georgieva, at the Dubai Science Park during the Longevity Science Semester Symposium, while promoting Future Story. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore groundbreaking innovations in longevity science and connect with global thought leaders shaping the future of health and well-being.
Our Head of Projects, Rebecca Zammit, as well as our Head of EU Funding and Proposal Development, Alexander Camilleri, attended the 2025 EIC Summit to connect with innovators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers shaping the future of European Innovation, as well as promote our biggest project to date, Women TechEU.
Members from our projects team, Melisa Mehmet and Maria Elena Muscat, participated in the European Shipping Summit (ESS) in Brussels, representing one of our Alliances for Innovation projects, GREENPORT Alliances.
Our Managing Director, Angele Giuliano, represented Women TechEU in the ‘Explorando Horizontes’ event hosted by Sploro in Navarra, Spain.

> 24 years old … to many more!

We would like to thank everyone who has collaborated with us or supported us in our work over the past year.
