People of AcrossLimits: Brandon Vella

Brandon is a Partnerships Officer at AcrossLimits, where he builds partnerships, matchmakes and identifies EU opportunities. He completed his Bachelors in Philosophy and Sociology from the University of Malta in 2020 and began his AcrossLimits journey shortly after.

Born and raised in Malta, Brandon enjoys meeting all kinds of people, learning more about their background, culture and life experience. Growing up, Brandon’s family owned a bar in the heart of his hometown Qormi, which undoubtedly honed his social skills and the foundations to building and maintaining connections with people.

While he was studying at University he started working at the bar for a couple of months before moving to a restaurant manager at a small cosy diner with a lot of character, this was a bit out of his comfort zone since the atmosphere and vibe was very different from what he was used to, but he grew into the role and excelled in it. In fact he served as the manager for the diner up until he finished his studies.

Role at AcrossLimits

Brandon is part of the Partnerships Department, which deals with various aspects of what we do at AcrossLimits. Some of his responsibilities include; building connections, maintaining relationships, finding and identifying suitable grant and tendering opportunities for AcrossLimits, as well as for clients and business partners, building consortia / partnerships (for both grants and tenders), and providing support in EU project implementation.

Favourite aspects about working at AcrossLimits

When asked about his favourite aspect about working at AcrossLimits, Brandon didn’t hesitate to immediately reply “the people”. He explained that he has seen this company grow into what it has become today, and if it weren’t for the people that make up AcrossLimits, the company wouldn’t be what it has become. The people at AcrossLimits support each other unconditionally and safeguard a strong value system which is perpetuated by the entire team. Furthermore he continued to say that the fact that the job never gets boring is also something he loves about the work we do at AcrossLimits. Meeting all kinds of people, who do all kinds of things, enabled him to learn more about so many topics that he wouldn’t have organically stumbled upon, which keeps his curious and inquisitive mind engaged and firing on all cylinders.

Beyond AcrossLimits

When he is not looking for opportunities or consortia, Brandon is likely out and about in the Maltese / Gozitan garrigue with his partner, Rachel, and their dog Thunder, or practicing one of the many hobbies he engages in. These include working on models for his tabletop wargame armies, playing guitar, reading philosophy & comic books or, an avid Liverpool supporter, getting mad at the TV.
